Jane Palmer believe books (and kids!) have the power to change the world. As a social worker, she worked with children whose lives were affected by violence (and other inequities) and oversaw several youth-led violence prevention initiatives. She wants to write picture books that help kids deal with tough issues (like grief, loss, oppression, violence) in a meaningful way. She believes kids are agentic, brilliant, and resilient, which are themes she hopes to explore in picture books.

In 2022, Jane was selected for the “We Need Diverse Books” mentorship program. Read more about it here: AU Professor Goes Back to School for MFA in Creative Writing.

Jane is currently querying agents with her completed picture book manuscript on the power of nature when navigating grief and loss.
