J. Palmer (she/they) writes poems and creative non-fiction on themes such as resilience, resistance, healing, grief, loss, awe in nature, and queer joy. She is a (very) part-time student in American University’s MFA in creative writing program at American University, while also balancing parenthood, a career dedicated to ending gender-based violence, local community organizing, and many moments of joy.
In Fall of 2026, she is a writer-in-residence with Yellow Arrow Publishing and a Fellow at the Virginia Center for Creative Arts. In 2025, Palmer was a short-term writer-in-residence at Sundress Academy for the Arts’ Firefly Farms and an independent writing resident at UMass-Amherst’s Juniper Institute.
